Subject:Did yougo to a college or an university to get where you are?

I am interested in this same thing. I would like to go to college to get a good education on reptile husbandry and dealing with venomous snakes. I have lots of snakes like pythons and boas. I am looking at getting a venomous snake too. What species of venomous snake would you recommend for a first timer. Thanks

Thank youo for your web site I find it interesting and am glad to see you are a born again Christian working with snakes. Iam from South Africa and my son and I keep snakes only have Puff Adders, Shield Noses from Mozambique and Western Coral Snakes from Namibië as venoumous unfortunately no Cobras. We are compared to you very new in the snake keeping hobby but enjoy evry bit of it. We don though get allot of flack due to us being very active Christians keeping snakes. It is seen as being satan's pets and we a regulary said to be playing with the devil. We also have major problems with people killing snakes (many harmless) because they read the Bible incorrectly in Genisis where it sasy that the snake will bite you on the heel and you will trample on is head. Thanks for the interesting website

Ray it was an honor to meet you, however next time lets meet somewhere other than the E.R. while treating you. I understand your bite and survival was a record breaker. Your ordeal was not only an eye opener for me and my emergency room staff, but quite the learning experience. Best of luck to you in your speedy and full recovery.

I must say I'm shocked at some of your pictures. While I'm in no way a prude of any type, I find it horrible that you have a dangerous reptile outside in a neighborhood - or at least it appears to be a neighborhood. A King Cobra in a driveway? In a condo?

Am I being unreasonable? I'm being honest with you -- I mind my own business when it comes to my neighbors, etc. However, if I saw a neighbor with a King Cobra in the driveway, I'd freak!

What are your thoughts? I'm sure you've heard this all before.

Subject:self immunizing

We also see some guys freehandling adult black mambas and green mambas in South Africa. Some thirty years ago the late Hennie(Rassie)Erasmaus handed me his green mamba to hold for a while. My heart pounded and I will never do it again. I guess I like life on earth. In this line of work one have to from time to time freehandle, but I certainly regard all venomous snakes as potential biters and will stay clear of the blunt side. As a matter of interest, researchers found that people working in close proximatety of venomous snakes do get into contact with minute quantities of venom over a long period of time. This can lead to alergic reactions to snake venom when they are bitten. Self immunizing can have the same effect. They found that horses used for serum production may one day just croak after receiving a dose of venom. The same can happen to humans???? Have a blessed day. Fruitbat
